NARRATIVE
ON PRINT - Towernook is the common name of
the tower or castle of the Abbey. Since the
drawing was made, in 1880, the old tavern
to the left of the picture, known by the name
of St. Thomas has been removed ; another construction,
devoted to the same use, and also bearing
the name of St. Thomas, has taken its place,
but is so built as to be less of an obstruction
to the view of the Abbey. The drinking-fountain
in front has been removed to the open space
in front of the north-west tower of the Abbey.
