Now mark, my Muse, yon distant mansion well,
That peeps, like hermit, from its lonely cell
;
Which sylvan shades, in stately splendour, shroud,
Remote and distant from the vulgar crowd.
'Tis Ethieancient, venerable pile,
Whose towers with such majestic granduer smile.
What though thy form deride the artist's plan,
(The work of many a chief, and many a clan),
Yet still thy artless towers unrivalled stand,
Sublimely greatirregularly grand.
Long hast thou stood*, the ornament and pride
Of the fair landscape, stretching far and wide
;
And may kind fate thy lengthened date prolong
The lofty theme of many a future song !
