NARRATIVE ON PRINT - Not far from the sculptured monument of Pitmuis, and above the village of Friockheim, the Lunan receives the Vinney, which rises in the marsh of Lour, and passes on its way Idvies, the village of Letham, the church of Kirkden, Ochterlony, and Pitmuis. The point of junction with the Lunan is in the parish of Kirkden, formerly called Idvies—a thanedom in ancient times.

On the western bank on the Denton burn, a tributary of the Vinney, stands the old Castle of Gardyne (Mr. Alex. Lyell), overlooking a beautifully - wooded ravine, and within a short distance of Friockheim is the mansion-house of Middleton (Mr. Bruce-Gardyne).
